Preparing for your IUCD insertion appointment

  • Let us know if you need your IUCD for emergency contraception as we'll need to book your appointment as soon as possible.

  • The best time for insertion is towards the end of your menstrual period and the couple of days after although often this doesn't matter at all.

  • Please use barrier contraception for 7 days before and 7 days after your insertion date (unless you're on hormonal contraception, in which case its ok to stop it after 7 days).

  • Take some paracetamol and ibuprofen an hour before your appointment to help with post procedure pain relief.

  • You're welcome to bring a support person with you.
