Warm friendly assessments with our expert assessors and GPs

From 1 February 2026, changes to ADHD prescribing rules mean some vocationally trained GPs and nurse practitioners can diagnose and start treatment for adults (18+) — including prescribing publicly funded stimulant medicines where clinically appropriate.

At Village Health, a small group of our GPs will be stepping into this important mahi to support patients who have often faced long waits and fragmented care. Please note: private fees apply because this work is not government funded. We’re also planning to launch a dedicated private ADHD clinic soon — watch this space. If you already have an ADHD assessment from a psychologist we can assist you with diagnosis and medication if your own GP is unable to do this.

For background on what’s changing (and the wider system challenges), we recommend this article.

Who is this service for?

Adults (18 years and older)

You can access our GP-led ADHD diagnosis and treatment pathway from 1 February 2026.

Under 18s (children and young people)

You can still access support through us, but GPs cannot diagnose ADHD or initiate stimulant prescribing for this age group under the new settings. In many cases you’ll need referral to a Child & Adolescent psychiatrist (public or private). Nationally, some nurse practitioners working in paediatric or child/adolescent mental health services can diagnose and start treatment for under-18s. Using our service can speed up the process for you so we're happy to help.

Book your assessment

We will be taking bookings for ADHD assessments from 4th of May at our Rolleston site (35 Masefield Drive).

Note: this service will be available for enrolled patients ONLY.

There are other psychiatric conditions that mimic ADHD which might need to be disentangled like anxiety, autism spectrum disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder or personality issues or something else. This is why we need to make a careful assessment to ensure we get the right solution for you.
