Traditional Acupuncture
Micromassage

What is micromassage?

Traditional micromassage is the use of a special instrument to massage the skin at an acupuncture point. It is not a needle, does not pierce the skin, and does not use batteries. This tiny massage employs the acupuncture meridians traversing an acupoint itself. These meridians are much more bio-electrically active than the surrounding tissue, and the friction there generates a static charge that penetrates the point, activating its functions. This electrical effect is natural to the body and quickly blends with the body's own bio-electric network, enhancing, balancing and harmonising its functioning.

Physiologically, the acupoints are also highly electrically active and are regarded as “energy wells”. They are only observable in the living body and physically consist of a small accumulation of connective tissue surrounded by a plexus of nerve and blood vessels. This structure breaks down on the death of the body and becomes no longer observable. Traditionally, therefore, these “wells” are regarded as influencing the nerves and the blood at the same time; i.e. the neurochemical acupuncture theory (endorphine release) of Western medicine is actually secondary to the primary action. It involves the energy (qi) of both mind and body.

The body's bio-electric system (i.e. the connective tissue and autonomic and central nervous systems) communicates through all the levels of the body, from macroscopic to microscopic, and participates with and influences all processes in the body. Electricity (energy) is at the heart of all natural processes and chemistry (both inside and outside the body).

What makes micromassage different from other therapies?

Everyone is unique. This is a principle of traditional Chinese medicine. Whereas, in mainstream Western medicine, everyone is considered to be pretty much the same biological and biochemical entity; Chinese medicine always includes the mind and emotions as an integral part of a person's physiology, character, health, illness and well-being. These, and the biorrhythms, are part of the body's bio-electric system and are gently, piezo-electrically influenced by micromassage. That is why it can take a few cycles of the daily biorrhythms for a result to establish itself.

There are many factors that influence individual health and well-being. Epidemic disases, climatic extremes, toxins, stresses etc. of varying severity are a constant threat. Especially these days, the international and global stresses (and even watching-reading-listening to the news) can profoundly impact on an individual's peace of mind and state of well-being. And then there are one's personal health, work, family and life style issues. It can all get a bit much, overwhelming even.

The (traditional acupuncture) micromassage diagnostic procedure is very practical and provides a constantly fresh and dynamic perspective in any situation, health condition or complex of therapies and health and fitness issues. It deals with a person as an individual rather than as a stereotyped disease, and, as a therapy, can stand alone as an effective treatment course, dealing with pain, stress and illness; or support and enhance the effects of other more obvious therapies, including conventional medicine, physiotherapy, counselling, psychotherapy, herbs, exercise, meditation, diet, osteopathy, massage, surgery and even acupuncture itself.

Micromassage is energy medicine and deals with causality at that level. As it deals with the individual at the level of their energy (or lack of it), its principles go deeper than many and variable symptoms, diagnoses, disciplines, therapies and conditions. Traditionally, one is diagnosing a “pattern of disharmony” or common denominator underlying a person's condition complex. As much as possible this underlying condition is treated using acupoints that also impact on the distressing symptom(s) presented, making for a more dynamic result. That is why it can stand alone as a therapy and also support and enhance the effects of other therapies, including conventional medicine, surgery and physiotherapy.

Philosophically, one could think of one's problems, health issues and intractable symptoms as if stuck in darkness and it is the purpose of micromassage to illuminate and advance that condition towards the light, like winter turning to spring. This is also a natural principle of Chinese medicine, and , with micromassage, is a natural working process that can take some time – acute conditions can often be healed quite fast, whereas chronic conditions take longer, sometimes quite a long time. One is looking to change things for the better each time and to add practical strategies, including dietary and other advice, that a person can take home and apply for themself.

One of the unique aspects of an individual is their mind, emotions and psychology. These are considered in the diagnostic procedure and one can think of the physiology of energy therapy here as including psychological and psychophysical medicine.
